Howard Park Scotsdale Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Delicate dusty aromas of violets cassis raspberries and dark plums are offset by slightly varnishy smoky and cedary oak Simultaneously ripe and under-ripe its palate is slightly cooked and stewy revealing sweet berryplum fruit and assertive oak framed by green-edged and slightly metallic tannins There’s also a very faint and strange smoky character at the finish of the wine that is reminiscent of both smoke taint and brettanomyces

Winery

Howard Park
Established by legendary winemaker John Wade in the 1980s, Howard Park is owned by the Burch family who have expanded its scale and vision enormously. The company operates wineries in each of Margaret River and the Great Southern, from which it produces several tiers of typically elegant and stylish table wines. For mine, the jewels in the crown remain in the Great Southern, largely the source of its premier wines. Pick of the current releases is the 2012 Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon, the finest for many a year under this label. This blend traditionally matched around 5% Margaret River merlot with Great Southern cabernet sauvignon, while this wine features 30% Margaret River cabernet sauvignon instead.
