Meaty, chocolatey aromas of dark plums and black pepper precede a relatively light palate for this vineyard, whose rather pretty expression of cassis and raspberry flavours knits well with sweet oak and slightly gritty tannins that smooth out towards the finish. It does culminate with rather cooked and dehydrated characters plus some metallic elements, and appears to have been made from slightly riper fruit than its alcoholic strength of 14.3% would indicate.

Dalwhinnie
Dalwhinnie is a small dryland vineyard that has a healthy reputation for its deeply layered and intensely flavoured Shiraz and its occasionally superlative Cabernet. Like many other vineyards in drought-affected regions, it has struggled in the first decade of this century to produce the depth and brightness of fruit of which we know it is capable, coming back into top form with the 2012 collection. The Chardonnay from 2013 has some delightful complexity and a charming future, but the Shiraz and Cabernet from the same vintage lacks their customary lustre and polish.
