Best’s Great Western Chardonnay 2025

$25.00

Here’s a charming, mouthfilling and complex chardonnay with layers of fruit and creamy texture. Ripe white peach, nectarine and lemony fruit backed by notes of butterscotch, nougat and faintly toasty vanilla oak are deftly matched in a medium-weight wine of pristine fruit and flavour. Wrapped in a gentle but mouthwatering acidity, it’s exceptional value and will find many a friend amongst those who shy from the modern fruit-stripped variant of this style. Give it a year or two – and perhaps you can afford to do this at its very welcoming price – and you’ll have a rounder, juicier wine of some distinction.

Winery

Best's Great Western
An icon in Australian wine, BestŐs is an historic winery in western Victoria whose shirazes rate among AustraliaŐs finest. Typical Great Western in style, they're steeped in fruit, laced with black pepper and exotic spices, but achieve a depth of fruit, strength and structure without appearing ham-fisted or clunky. The Bin No. '0' and Thomson Family Reserve Shirazes from 2014 reflect the intensity and harmony of this excellent vintage and will both cellar for the long term. Like several others from this region and from the nearby Henty area, Best's pristine and long-living Riesling continues to improve in its traditional off-dry style.
