Cassegrain Shiraz 2002

Meaty, Rh™ney shiraz with a pungent slightly reductive and black pepper aroma of musky plum and cassis fruit over restrained vanilla oak. Full to medium weight, its supple palate of spicy, plum and blackberry fruit culminates in a fine-grained and savoury finish. Loads of evolution and complexity, pleasing depth and brightness, but remains a fraction short and herbal.

Winery

Cassegrain
Cassegrain has steadily expanded from its original base around Port Macquarie to become an active participant in a number of cooler New South Wales regions, from which it regularly changes the fruit sources of some of its wines, including those featured here. There's a complex and sophisticated, savoury stamp about these wines that stands them apart from the Australian mainstream. Cassegrain's reds tend to lack genuine conviction and ripeness.
