Mills Reef, a Hawkes Bay producer whose principal Mere Road Vineyard is located in the warmer, alluvial Gimblett Gravels segment of the region, has cleaned up at the recent Air New Zealand Wine Awards, winning four gold medals for its premium ‘Elspeth’ reds from the 2000 vintage. The winning wines were the Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Syrah. Keep an eye out for these and other 2000 releases from the Gimblett Gravels.
