We’ve all recognised that wine is crucial to South Australia’s future, but now it’s possible to see how true that is. Orlando Wyndham’s Sales and Marketing Director, Stephen Couche, says that South Australia will account for around 55% of Australia’s likely total of $780 million of wine exports this year. ‘Industry analysts are predicting that the wine industry will be the State’s largest industry by 2025. Already there are nearly 9,000 people working full-time in grape growing, winemaking and blending – and as many again in part-time and casual jobs’, he says. ‘On top of that, there are another 4,000 jobs generated in the wholesale and retailing sectors, and probably thousands more in areas like transport, glass production, printing and advertising.’
