Wine Exports pass A$3 billion as China passes Japan

For the first time ever, Australia’s wine exports have passed the A$3 billion mark. This figure was reached for the year ended July 31, during which exports rose by 8% in value and 10% by volume (to 805 million litres). The average price per bottle sold by 6 cents to A$4.86 per litre (up 1.3%), which the bulk average price fell by 10 cents to A$1.02 per litre. China (A$51 million) also overtook Japan (A$50 million) this year as Australia’s largest wine market by value in Asia. While much of China’s wine imports from Australia have revolved around bulk wine, it is interesting to observe that the average value of bottled wine exports to China now exceed those to the UK by more than A$1 per bottle. For bottled wines only, the average FOB price to China is $5.48 for red and $5.35 for white, while the UK figures are $4.35 and $3.97 respectively. And this is only the beginning!
