Around 33,000 people, representing a 20% increase over the 1998 event, made their way to Wine Australia in late November, the largest event of its kind yet staged in Australia. Given that the organisers claim that more than 100,000 bottles of wine were opened for trial and comparison, that means each visitor must have consumed on average about three bottles per head. No wonder they looked happy.

Can’t find your favourite wine?
