Now under new ownership, the former Wrights winery in Margaret River has been reborn as Juniper Estate, with the release of a new early-drinking Juniper Crossing range. Interesting choice of name, since juniper berries are used to flavour gin and I have never seen one cross a river or road yet. A new 200 tonne winery is due for commissioning, to be managed by former Cape Mentelle winemaker Mark Messenger. Juniper’s ace in the hole is its 25 year-old unirrigated vineyard, which will supply all the fruit for the premium Juniper Estate brand.
