Vale David Robertson

Australian wine is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated makers, Thistle Hill’s David Robertson. In his hands, Thistle Hill was the first Mudgee maker to challenge the quality of the better small vineyards in cooler regions, especially with some memorable cabernet sauvignons. He was always on at me in a good-humoured way for under-rating his rather idiosyncratic pinot noir, but David Robertson will go down in history as one of the key people who took Mudgee from a rustic winemaking backwater to one of our genuine quality wine regions.
