Sam Tolley, general manager of the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation, has attacked in Churchillian fashion an absurd proposition by Fernando Bianche de Aguira, outgoing President of the Office International du Vin, that wine should be classified as either ‘natural agricultural’ and ‘artificial industrial’. Dismissing it as an attempt to label New World wines as ‘just another beverage’, Tolley said that there was a lot more in the differences between Old World and New World winemaking than the issue or natural versus artificial.
