An important trophy was not presented at the recent Sydney Wine Show: The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Perpetual Trophy and Memento (RAS of NSW Value Award for Red Wine, for the best red wine not exceeding $15 per bottle retail. It’s becoming a matter of great concern that there isn’t as much value in the cheaper red market as there should be. Are the judges making a deliberate effort to reward distinctively Australian wines, or were these simply considered the best on the day?
