So you forgot the corkscrew?

Who cares? The Alambie Wine Company is testing a new cork concept known as Kwik Kork on its Castle Crossing Bin CC4 Columbard Chardonnay 1996. An American invention, Kwik Kork retains a natural cork, but does not require corkscrew to remove. Just remove the capsule and pull the cork straight out using a little device inserted in its centre which resembles a plunger. It actually takes less than half the pressure to extract a Kwik Kork than a normal cork. Although it’s still in its prototype stages, Kwik Kork could well become a popular seal for cheaper bottles which are unlikely to be cellared for more than 12 months. Given their investment in the process, one hopes Alambie will succeed. And at $6 retail, the CC4 offers particularly good value as a refreshing quaffer.
