Vinea Marson Shiraz Viognier 2014

Long and gravelly, with a fragrant, spicy presence of dark plums, blackberries, dark cherries and undertones of charcuterie meats. Tasted eight years later, it’s very much the same wine, having evolved more pepper and perfume. The palate is long, effortless, textural and savoury, with genuine translucent brightness sand even lightness to the touch. Fullish to medium in weight, it delivers the intensity and ripeness of Heathcote fruit, but in a framework and context that is distinctly European.

Vinea Marson
Mario Marson left a long and distinguished incumbency with Dr John Middleton at Mount Mary before heading to Heathcote in 1999 to develop his own vineyard. One of the dictums he picked up from Middleton was to focus on multi-clonal vineyards, something that was reinforced to him while spending time in Italy, especially with Paolo di Marchi at Isole e Olena. Marson's wines are about an un-Heathcote-like as most wine drinkers could imagine, since they deftly marry the perfume and brightness of (comparatively) early-harvested fruit with subtle and savoury qualities. His varietal selections enable him to explore his Italian heritage and contribute to the broadening spectrum of quality wine in Victoria.
