Pewsey Vale Vineyard 1961 Block Riesling 2024

$35.00

Simply a beautifully shaped, perfumed and balanced riesling whose alluring bouquet of kaffir lime, lavender, apple skin and lemon reveal a hint of white peach. There’s some creaminess and richness about its luscious core of vivacious fruit which extends long and streamlined down a classic Eden Valley spine of dry chalk, then finishing quite dry with mouthwatering acidity and a hint of mineral. An elite wine, from the oldest block at this astonishing vineyard, and which happens to have exactly the same age as me.

Pewsey Vale Vineyard
Today a specialist riesling brand, Pewsey Vale is best known for its two dry Rieslings, each of which is consistently reliable, true to type and long living. Given the sheer quality of the younger, and the bonus of age presented by The Contours – of which the 2013 is a superbly complex and textured example – they offer remarkable value for money. The marginally sweet Prima Riesling is also finding consistency in its relatively low alcohol style of around 20 g/litre sugar. Pewsey Vale has sadly discontinued its Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris.
