Glaetzer Anaperenna Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

While it’s a touch clinical and lacks perhaps a touch of brightness and vitality this is a genuinely high-class wine with plenty of cellaring potential Its heady spicy and lightly musky perfume of small black and red berries reveals herbal cabernet influences and cedary oak There are undertones of rosemary plus a faint touch of spirit Smooth and seamless the deeply layered palate of lingering cassis and plum-like flavour and nuances of dried herbs is supported by firm tannins that should lose their slight grittiness with time

Glaetzer
One of Australia's busiest and most demanded contract winemakers, Ben Glaetzer is the winemaking inspiration behind this series of Barossa reds. His style is rich, ripe and generous, as he seeks a sumptuous presence of fruit and polished oak supported by a silky cut of fine tannin. The wines from the warm 2013 show the richness, opulence and smoothness of the Glaetzer house style. I think the cabernet component of the Anaperenna helps it soak its 15.5% alcohol rather better than the 100% shiraz Amon-Ra. The Bishop is precisely what you'd expect from this label in a ripe season.
