Assertive and well structured, this stylish and well-mannered pinot has a spicy, herbal and meaty bouquet of dark plums, blueberries, dark cherries and raspberries lifted by scents of blue flowers, mint and menthol. ItÕs long, smooth and supple, with a punchy, tomatoey presence of redcurrant fruit underpinned by fine, crunchy tannins, finishing with fresh acids. A little too tomatoey for a higher rating.

Phil Sexton, an experienced operator in the wine, brewing and hospitality industries, has set up camp in a very major way at Healesville in the Yarra Valley, with the spectacular Innocent Bystander winery and hospitality centre, home to the Giants Creek range. Sourcing from several different vineyards whose wines are vinified and sold separately, the brand continues to fashion chardonnay and pinot noir of ever-increasing style and elegance. The steady improvement of the Sexton Vineyard and Tarraford Chardonnays over recent years is reflected by their elevated ratings.
