A very Alsatian expression of pinot gris with a delicate spicy perfume of lemon blossom and jasmine over apricot and citrusy fruit. Fine, supple and elegant, it’s soft and juicy, delivering generous nutty flavours along a fleshy and slightly oily palate that finishes with soft acids and lingering nuances of funky complexity. Likely to flesh out further.
A smooth, generous and intensely fruited pinot gris whose musky perfume of rose oil, pear and apple-like fruit is backed by nutty undertones. It’s chalky and powdery, with some smoky, charcuterie-like reductive complexity beneath its pristine, juicy flavours. It finishes long and savoury, with lingering citrus notes and soft acids. Lovely balance and varietal purity.
Proof positive that some Australians can indeed grow pinot gris! A meaty, gamey, smoky and rather funky bouquet of rosemary, rose oil, cinnamon and clove precedes a long, smooth and seamless palate whose spicy pear, apple and white peach-like fruit is tightly wrapped in a crystalline acidity. Underpinned by a fine chalkiness, it finishes with lingering nutty, savoury qualities and pristine fruit.
Very ripe, forward and developing, with an assertive, pungent and spicy bouquet of juicy, slightly candied pineapple and tropical fruits with dusty herbal; undertones. Round and juicy, itÕs broad and very generous, with rich, confectionary flavours of apple, pear and mango that finish slight hot and lacking genuine focus and tightness.
A fine, powdery and rather funky young pinot gris whose deep presence of spicy varietal flavour easily handles its winemaking-derived complexity and artefact. Backed by earthy, meaty notes, its musky bouquet of pear, apple and minerals reveals undertones of apricot, clove and nutmeg. Long and smooth, underpinned by a fine, powdery backbone, its pristine palate of pear/apple fruit finishes with lingering hints of cinnamon and lychee and a taut acidity.
Smooth, creamy and laid-back, this spicy, waxy and floral white wine has a musky bouquet of pear, apple, clove and cinnamon backed by a hint of lanolin. Round and generous, with an unctuous palate of rose oil, pear, apple and a light sweetness, itÕs like a white Turkish delight, finishing with rather funky and savoury evolution and complexity.
Nutty aromas of stonefruit, melon and lemony notes backed by creamy, mealy complexity and heady scents of dried flowers precede an evolved, funky palate whose almost brassy expression of fruit is backed by meaty complexity, drying out a little towards a wild and savoury finish. A significant change towards a more evolved, meaty style, possibly at the expense of varietal identity.
Unusual and almost white port-like, with a dusty, spirity bouquet of apricot blossom and spice plus a long but rather candied and toffee-like palate that lacks its usual freshness and varietal qualities. It finishes warm and savoury.
