Charming, juicy and confectionary, with bright black and red berries, cedary oak and undertones of mint and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, itÕs supple and soft.
A brightly lit, full to medium-bodied blend whose pristine aromas of cassis, violets, dark plums and redcurrants is backed by smoky oak and a whiff of cracked pepper. Supported by a firmish spine of fine, chalky tannins, its lustrous palate of fresh small black and red berries, plums and tight-knit oak extends spotlessly and vibrantly towards a finish of anise-like flavour.
A youthful and ripe pinot likely to open up and develop into a juicy and deeply flavoured wine of some longevity. Its spicy and slightly meaty fragrance of dark plus and berries is presently rather closed and still quite perfumed and complex. Supple and sappy, its long and fleshy palate presents a slightly stewy expression of cherry/plum flavours framed by silky tannins and finishing with fineness, tightness and a hint of menthol.
Rich, ripe and meaty, this assertive but rather polished young pinot marries its earthy flavours of red cherries, blackberries and plums with dusty, chestnut-like oak and undertones of animal hide. It’s surprisingly floral and perfumed, and its long, concentrated palate overlies a dusty spine of powdery extract. It finishes with lingering sour-edged fruit, a hint of sappiness and a lingering tomatoey aspect.
An old-fashioned expression of spicy, musky and meaty pinot that should developed smoothness and softness. Its heady aromas of briary dark plums, berries and rose petals overlie sweet cedary oak and minty, meaty nuances. Supported by a firm, fine-grained extract, itÕs long and luscious, with a hint of polish about its drying tannin and plenty of earthy, leathery development. It finishes spicy and savoury, with a lingering presence of redcurrant and maraschino cherry-like flavour.
Very wild and meaty, with a stewy, baked aspect, itÕs spicy and gamey but lacks genuine freshness and ripeness. Rich and earthy, it dries out towards a rather raw, lean and faintly metallic finish.
Reminiscent of some Sonoma Coast pinot noir, this is one very assertive, ripe and jammy dry red whose dense presence of blackberry confiture, currants and plums is offset by chocolatey, coffee and mocha-like oak and underpinned by a hard-edged, drying astringency. ItÕs briary, ultra-ripe and marginally baked, lacking charm and freshness.
Supple, elegant and varietally correct, with a fragrance of red cherries, raspberries, blood plums and sweet cedar/vanilla oak underpinned by dusty, spicy aromas and scents of red flowers. Medium weight, with a fine-grained, pliant backbone beneath its pleasing length of bright and juicy, if slightly jammy cherry/berry fruit, it finishes long and gentle with fresh acids. Reminiscent of the Robert Mondavi pinots of the 1980s.
An oaky, dense and polished pinot thatÕs very Penfolds red wine in style but also suggestive of some Central Coast Californian styles. Deep aromas of dark cherries, plums and beetroot backed by very smoky, mocha oak precede a powerful but smooth, very ripe and almost raisined and currant-like palate whose meaty flavours combine with plush, smooth oak and firmish tannins.
