Founded more than forty years ago, Rosemount Estate’s winery at Denman in the Upper Hunter Valley is part of contemporary Australian winemaking history. Today it is shortly to be leased out by its expected new owners UHI Pty Ltd for what could become a range of industrial uses. The complex, which includes what was then a state-of-the-art and fully computerised winery designed by Philip Shaw, is now almost bereft of winemaking equipment. Owned by Foster’s since its purchase of Southcorp in 2005 of AUD$3.2 billion, the winery property of 260 ha also includes 59ha of chardonnay, traminer and verdelho. UHI intends to retain its wine and lifestyle flavour and anticipates that regional wine producers might be interested in using the property’s extensive storage facilities.
