Ian Shepherd will head the joint Robert Mondavi /Rosemount Estate wine venture, which will see the development of new wines in both California and Australia, with a special emphasis on shiraz. Shepherd’s 20 years of winemaking have seen him work with Krondorf, Saltram, Kanonkop Estate (Stellenbosch), Seppeltsfield, Seppelt Great Western, Seven Peaks (Central Coast, California) and in Burgundy. The project will focus on cooler climate shiraz fruit, with supplemental sourcing from warmer regions in both countries. The first wines will emerge around February 2003, the prestige releases later that year.
