Reckon we’ve been planting? Take a look over the Pacific!

According to Richard Cartiere’s Wine Market Report, the ten-year boom in Californian vineyard expansion and redevelopment will reach $5 billion of investment. Causes like phylloxera, vine ageing or vineyard improvement have led to a massive planting or replanting of around 100,000 ha since 1990, taking California’s total area under vine, bearing and non-bearing, to around 215,000 ha, an increase of 60% since 1990. By comparison, Australia’s total area under vine is presently around 110,000 ha, just over half that of California.
