One of the elite producers in New Zealand since its inception in 1974 after being acquired by the Buck and Morris families. I have been fortunate to watch the evolution of Te Mata since around 1980 and deeply admire the drive and passion of John Buck who has not only crafted an illustrious past but a clear future direction for the company. With its classic pair of Coleraine and Awatea reds based around Bordeaux varieties, its steadily improving success with shiraz, its handsome Elston Chardonnay and delicious Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc - a wine that has steadfastly aimed for quality rather than the popular and rather industrial Marlborough style - Te Mata has chosen its ground and stayed true to its early convictions.
