Juicy and jammy, medium to fullish in weight, with a core of cassis, blackberry and dark plum flavour rather overwhelmed by the coconut/dark chocolate/pine needle oak it’s partnered with. It finishes with hints of roasting meats, but also a lingering mint/menthol note. Less and better oak would have made a huge difference.

St Hallett
Recently acquired by Accolade Wines, St Hallett is a Barossa shiraz specialist. Its Faith is typically vibrant, spicy and silky-smooth, while the Blackwell has more richness, structure and expression. A Barossa benchmark responsible for two excellent releases from 2010 and 2012, the Old Block tops them both for depth, structure and longevity. Recent vintages have also seen a significant improvement in the Eden Valley Riesling, which produced rather a different, more early-maturing style from 2014.
