Singlefile Frankland River Shiraz 2010

$37.00

A very ripe but brightly fruited shiraz whose fragrant, spicy, peppery and luscious expression of its more savoury style delivers a smooth, soft core of vibrant, dark-fruited flavour framed by fine, drying tannins. What’s preventing this wine from achieving a higher score is its rather awkward, smoky, pine needle-like oak that even after 15 years has yet to integrate properly with its pleasing and attractive fruit.

Phil and Viv Snowden, a couple of South African geologists, established their family wine business in 2007 with the purchase of a vineyard in Denmark in the southern portion of the Great Southern wine region. The family's next generation of Pam and Patrick Corbett are today running the operation, which takes its name from the geese resident on the property, which march in single file through the vineyards to the nearby lake every day at dusk. The wines are steadily improving Đ a process I expect to continue for some time yet as the company gets closer to realising its hearteningly lofty quality ambitions.
