Epis Pinot Noir 2022

$75.00

A fine, restrained pinot of charming balance that slowly unfolds its richness and flavour. A gentle musky perfume of strawberries, raspberries and red cherries knit with cedary oak is lifted by suggestions of eastern spices and rose petals. Initially quite lean but supported by a fine, powdery backbone, it steadily reveals more weight of raspberry, redcurrant and dark cherry-like fruit, as its acids ease back and settle into the wine. From a cool, late season, it should flourish with around five years of cellaring.

Winery

Epis
Domaine Epis is a small Macedon Ranges producer that specialises in silky, perfumed Pinot Noir and austere, mineral Chardonnay from its meticulous estate block near Woodend, plus a finely crafted and potentially long-living Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot from the mature Williams Vineyard near Kyneton, that was initially developed by central Victorian wine pioneer, Laurie Williams. Owner and operator Alex Epis, whose journey into wine occurred at a rather later time of life than most destined to craft extraordinary examples of it, is devoted to the health of his vineyard and the ripeness of his consistently low crops. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay can be simply outstanding – as shown by the 2020 and 2019 wines respectively – and the consistency from this small vineyard is something truly remarkable.
