Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

A more elegant and restrained, cooler vintage expression from this significant vineyard. Delicate floral and faintly herbal aromas of bright red and black berries, mulberries and cranberries knit with cedar/vanilla oak. Supported by fine, dusty tannins, it’s supple and gentle, with a restrained expression of fruit, smoky oak and dried herbs that are likely to become quite cigarboxy with time.

Domaine A
Domaine A is the label for the small volumes of handcrafted top echelon wines from the Stoney Vineyard in the Coal River Valley established by Peter Althaus and now owned by Moorilla Estate's David Walsh. Extraordinarily for a Tasmanian vineyard, its most consistent performer is its Cabernet Sauvignon, which in more vintages than not has acquired the depth of flavour and structure one might expect from a fine Bordeaux growth. It is way too early to see the influence of this brand's new winemaking team headed by Conor van de Reest, but I remain very confident that the vineyard is again in excellent hands.
