Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz 2007

An honest but slightly under and overripe shiraz whose meaty presence of dark plums and blackberries does reveal an underswell of herbal influence and a whiff of iodide. Dark, brambly and briary, its earthy, forward palate of plum and blackberry-like fruit is underpinned by a raw, hard-edged grip, finishing with suggestions of dried herbs.

Winery

Dalwhinnie
Dalwhinnie is a small dryland vineyard that has a healthy reputation for its deeply layered and intensely flavoured Shiraz and its occasionally superlative Cabernet. Like many other vineyards in drought-affected regions, it has struggled in the first decade of this century to produce the depth and brightness of fruit of which we know it is capable, coming back into top form with the 2012 collection. The Chardonnay from 2013 has some delightful complexity and a charming future, but the Shiraz and Cabernet from the same vintage lacks their customary lustre and polish.
