Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz 2006
Very finely crafted, long and elegant, this is a substantially more reserved expression of shiraz from this vineyard. Scented with blackberries, redcurrants and fresh chocolate/vanilla oak, it’s lifted by aromas of black pepper, cloves and cinnamon. Medium to full in weight, its supple palate of sweet black and red berries, cedary oak and suggestions of meatiness is underpinned by a dusty spine of fine tannin. It finishes with just a hint of cooked and green-edged flavour.

Dalwhinnie
Dalwhinnie is a small dryland vineyard that has a healthy reputation for its deeply layered and intensely flavoured Shiraz and its occasionally superlative Cabernet. Like many other vineyards in drought-affected regions, it has struggled in the first decade of this century to produce the depth and brightness of fruit of which we know it is capable, coming back into top form with the 2012 collection. The Chardonnay from 2013 has some delightful complexity and a charming future, but the Shiraz and Cabernet from the same vintage lacks their customary lustre and polish.
