Barwang Shiraz 2022

$23.00

For those who prefer their shiraz fragrant, savoury and medium-bodied this charmer from the Hilltops region unfolds a floral fragrance of raspberries, redcurrants and blood plums backed by notes of vanilla/cedar oak and cracked pepper. Its lively presence of pastille-like red and black berry flavour knits tightly with sandpapery tannin and gentle oak, finishing with softness and a hint of charcuterie. It’s a delightful old-fashioned Australian burgundy style that builds structure and texture as it breathes. Very typical of its site.

Winery

Barwang
Planted at an altitude of 520 metres in the Hilltops region between Harden and Young, the Barwang vineyard is a dry and isolated site that has proven capable of producing excellent wine from a range of different varieties. Now operating as a stand-alone wine business, it was owned by McWilliams during its previous incarnation. During that period it was first responsible for some truly remarkable estate wines, but the label was diluted to include fruit from other regions. The Bowman family, six generation farmers in the region, bought the property in 2021. I wish them well and am truly delighted to say that they have started extremely well, offering exceptional quality and value for money. I'm honestly delighted to see one of my favourite vineyards and labels in the hands of a family with the commitment to fulfill some high expectations.
