Mike Peterkin, one of our leading makers of chardonnay and wood-matured semillon and sauvignon blanc, has released his first cabernet blend under the Pierro label. A true cellaring style with massive backbone and a complementary cut of ripe, flavoursome fruit, the Pierro Cabernets 1994 is a distinctively regional Margaret River red. Very refined despite its richness and assertive tannic extract, its sits stylistically between Cape Mentelle and Howard Park, with a little Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon thrown in. I rate it at 18.6 and suggest you drink it after 2006. Retail $34 approx.
