Pier’s wine list is very much what you would expect from a restaurant able to deliver on some very high expectations. It’s a well chosen selection whose already quite large and diverse collection of older vintages has been bolstered by some carefully picked wines from the Anders Josephson collection. The Australian range is imaginative and complete, with a mix of prestige and niche-market labels from newer varieties. It presents quite a broad selection from Italy, Bordeaux and Burgundy, but outside these regions it’s hardly the most complete selection of imported wines. Those presented do however cover most principal combinations of region with variety, courtesy of some of the best makers. It’s quite a large but easily navigable list which has made a genuine effort to offer a thoughtful choice. You could indeed escape without spending a poultice, but my problem is that I’d be tempted to!
