Dejan Derbogosian is a genuine student of wine and has compiled one of Australia’s great wine lists for committed wine nuts at the successful European steak restaurant operated by his parents in Kew. While I cannot speak more highly of the carniverous fare presented at the table, it is to sample the rare and obscure wines from this truly remarkable selection that I would travel many a mile. There are Sommelier’s Recommendations, a Short List for those who don’t quite understand or appreciate the depth of the entire document thrust into their hands after requesting the entire list, and truly substantial Cellar Lists which feature everything from Burgundy, Californian cabernet and merlot (a speciality of Dejan’s), great Australian cabernets, Bordeaux and Rhone varieties. There’s a great dessert list and a range of top half-bottles. Believe me, this unbelievable collection makes the trip to Kew a treat all of its own. Just remember to take an appetite with you!
