Troubled Hunter Valley-based wine company Pepper Tree is likely to be sold by James Fairfax to Canning Energy, an Australian financial group. While precise details on the deal have yet to emerge, the deal includes the brand, the winery and cellar door, but not any vineyards. Why anyone would want to buy Pepper Tree, which is hardly a household name, without its Coonawarra vineyard, is entirely beyond me.
