OnWine Quiz #21

The last quiz concerned the sporting pursuits of a man whose winery features in living colour in this edition, Peter Rymill. A big winner in the recent decision by the AAT, which incorporated a number of his vineyards south of Penola inside the newly delineated Coonawarra regional border, Rymill was also a sportsman of considerable note. Tony Gianduzzo from Mountain Creek sent in the first entry opened on September 28 that identified Rymill as a former equestrian. There’s just a bit of a clue in that two horses sit atop his wine labels, but letting you know would have made life that little bit too easy, wouldn’t it? These days it’s almost impossible to pick up a wine column or a business page in a newspaper without reading about a takeover of some kind. Some companies have been taken over so many times it’s almost getting difficult to piece together an accurate history of them. So the quiz in this issue has a take-over sort of flavour. Consider these wineries: Lake’s Folly, Morris of Rutherglen, Mountadam, Knappstein, Lenswood Vineyards, Moorilla Estate and Howard Park. All small, all with a top track record. But which is the odd one out, and why? Just post your answer to Reply Paid 243, OnWine Quiz #21, Jeremy Oliver’s OnWine Report, 565 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn, Victoria, 3122, Australia. Whoever sends the first correct answer opened on February 12 will win a fine bottle of mature red from the maker in question.
