Jean Claude Rouzard celebrated his 30 years at the helm of Louis Roederer by inviting the makers of what he consideres the world’s 30 best wines to a dinner at the Tour d’Argent and a tasting at the Louvre. One can forgive Grange maker John Duval for accepting the bait. The only other shiraz-dominant wine in the party was Etienne Guigal’s Cote-Rotie La Turque. Other wines to win Jean Claude’s nod of approval included Chateaux Margaux, Mouton-Rothschild, Haut-Brion, Latour, Lafite, Cheval Blanc, Petrus, Ausone and Yquem, plus the rare Burgundian jewels of Romanee-Conti, Marquis de Laguiche, Leflaive and Faively.
