Prices shot 50% above anticipated at the Great Wine Estates of WA Wine Auction on November 22. Conducted at Cape Mentelle by Langton’s, a total of $331,000 was spent, with most lots achieving over $60 per bottle. The highlight was a collection of ten especially designed imperials donated by the wineries for the Busselton Population Medical Research Foundation established by the founder of Cullens, the late Dr Kevin Cullen, fetching a remarkable $24,420. Cape Mentelle will stage a barrique auction with a similar theme in November 1999.
