NSW winegrape production to increase by 50% in five years

The NSW Wine Industry Association has released data which suggests its state will increase its winegrape production from 228,700 tonnes of grapes in 1999 to 338,565 tonnes in 2004. These numbers actually exclude the NSW Sunraysia district, which crushed 63,000 tonnes in 1999. NSW presently accounts for 26% of the total national winegrape crop of 1.126 million tonnes. The areas which anticipate the greatest growth in tonnage crushed are the Riverina, ACT and Southern Highlands, Mudgee, Cowra and Big Rivers. The Hunter Valley’s crush is anticipated to increase from 32,140 to 39,073 tonnes.
