Incredibly enough, eleven years before BRL Hardy’s Stonehaven winery at Padthaway was opened in 1998, ‘Stonehaven began planting cabernet sauvignon in Coonawarra in 1987’, according to a press release that accompanies the first Stonehaven Stepping Stone Cabernet Sauvignon, from the 2000 vintage. Believe that vines were being planted for this label at that time and you’ll believe anything, but that’s what wine PR is all about these days. As for the wine, what is Coonawarra cabernet doing in a $12.95 bottle?
