I am delighted to announce some significant improvements to the OnWine website. The site is now ready to adopt the full benefits of Internet technology! Level 2 or ‘Insider’ Level subscribers will shortly notice some major changes, from the nature of the emails from my desk to the appearance and user-friendliness of the site’s home page. You will now have earlier access to the information, news and reviews you presently receive from this website. The site has previously operated on an old-fashioned print media business model, in which information is stored, written up and presented in a newsletter format at the end of the month. Because of this, it is inevitable that by the time it is distributed, some of the stories are already outdated and some of the most sought-after wines are already sold out. So, despite the investment I have made in the Internet medium, nobody was really receiving the full benefits of the immediacy it can bring. This is about to change. In future, instead of compiling notes, reviews, editorial opinion and articles into a monthly publication, the same information will be made available through the site as it is written. You will be alerted by regular emails on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, which will augment the current News articles with a sample of the latest tasting notes, plus details of news stories and features posted on the site. The front page of the site is being adapted to feature a dynamic list of the latest stories, tasting notes, ratings and news, so with only the most basic of web skills, people can access their full contents immediately. So, in a nutshell, you will be receiving in your email a more comprehensive service than we have provided until now. Furthermore, outside these scheduled emails, the site will regularly report on other news and happenings in Australian wine as events unfold. I hope you welcome these changes. They will not alter the amount of information you receive from your subscription, but instead represent a very positive means by which we can more efficiently and effectively keep you informed about and excited by Australian wine. With kind regards, Jeremy Oliver.
