Mount Avoca Changes Hands

Barrington Estates Ltd has added Pyrenees maker Mount Avoca to its recent acquisition of the South Australian brand of Haselgrove, which it bought in June for $3.5 million from Cranswick Premium Wines Limited. Cranswick retained its 100 acre vineyard in Wrattonbully and its 450 acre vineyard in Loxton, South Australia and the ‘Lost Sheep’ brand name. Barrington retains the services of Mount Avoca’s winemaker, Matthew Barry, was recently quoted in Melbourne’s The Age newspaper using Melbourne wine show results to demonstrate that Mount Avoca Shiraz was at least as good as Dalwhinnie’s. Amongst other things, that’s yet another damning indictment on the Royal Melbourne Wine Show.
