More Australian wineries than ever

According to the latest edition of the Australian Wine Industry Directory, 147 new Australian wineries opened their doors in 2001, an increase of 11% over the figure of 1318 in 2000. Victoria now has the largest number of wine makers: 416, with South Australia in second place with 353. NSW and the ACT have 331, WA 220, Queensland 74 and Tasmania 70. Chateau Hornsby brings up the rear in the Northern Territory.
