It’s now well known that Mildara Blass’ purchase of large American maker Beringer has created the world’s largest premium wine company, but it isn’t well known in Australia that to do so it beat off the advances of Kendall-Jackson, another large US wine producer which has been closely linked to Beringer in the US media for some time. Although a joint US-Australian venture had been considered a possibility, most American commentators believed that whatever move Beringer made, it would be with another American wine company. Will this make them nervous for the future of Kendall-Jackson and Robert Mondavi?
