Failing to find investment partners to participate in its plans, Brian McGuigan Wines Limited has gone it alone to begin developing in 2001 a $22 million 320 ha vineyard west of Tanunda in the Barossa Valley. Target output is 300,000 cases from shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, sangiovese, nebbiolo and barbera. Around 90% of the vineyard will be planted to these red varieties. Orlando Wyndham, Simeon’s Yaldara and BRL Hardy’s 50% owned Barossa Valley Estate will also take fruit from the vineyard. Brian McGuigan is negotiating with Barossa Valley Estates to process part of the grape harvest at their controversial new winery near Seppeltsfield expected to be finished for the 2002 vintage.
