The latest addition to the Australian wine industry’s Hall of Fame is Dr Bryce Rankine, winner of the 1998 Maurice O’Shea Award. Dean of the Faculty of Oenology at Roseworthy College while your correspondent was but a shy and retiring student, this self-described ‘backroom boy’ has in 48 years of association with wine been a rock on which many of the technical advantages now enjoyed by Australian wine have been founded. Every credit should be given to McWilliams for initiating and nurturing this award, which will now be presented every two years in conjunction with Wine Australia.
