Madew for sale

David and Romilly Madew have put up for sale their Madew winery and wine business, the ‘Westering’ property and its vineyards, with the 160-seat grapefoodwine restaurant, all located in the on the foreshores of Lake George in the Canberra wine region. The winery has a 150 tonne capacity, and the business has contracts for processing around 60 tonnes for other vineyards. The 9.5 ha ‘Westering’ vineyard is planted to riesling, pinot noir, pinot gris, chardonnay, shiraz and merlot. After ten years under the management and development of the Madews, the company has emerged as a more serious wine brand with some first-class wines in recent years, especially from riesling, shiraz and pinot gris. Its cellar door operation is a busy one. The winery has played host to some world-class entertainment in recent years, including performances by Jackson Brown, Richard Clapton, Joan Armatrading and Boz Scaggs. The company, land, goodwill and stock are for sale by tender.
