Burgeoning demand for red wine and a scarcity of expensive ground in Coonawarra has led Leconfield to replant its rows of riesling with cabernet sauvignon. The last Leconfield riesling, from the 1996 vintage, is given a snappy commemorative label and is now released around $18. Typically closed and withdrawn, it is scented with lime and lemon detergent and has an appley palate finishing with chalky acids. It needs 5-8 years (16.0).
