Straight from the ‘If You Don’t Have the History, Just Make It Up Yourself’ department comes news in a brochure from Beringer Blass that its Jamiesons Run wines have a history dating back to 1888. While I’ve no problem with the claim that Jamiesons Run was the name of the original sheep station where the first Mildara Winery was built, any link between this site and the brand’s ‘spiritual home’ of the ‘famous terra rossa soil of Coonawarra’ could best be described as vaporous. Especially when the first vintage of Jamiesons Run red was not made until 1987, nearly a century after such a significant date in Mildara’s history.
