I could not possibly be so cruel as to reproduce in full a recently-arrived press release concerning some moderate show success enjoyed by Geoff Merrill’s Who Cares? wines. But I will print some selected highlights; a term I adopt advisedly. ‘sick of all the talk about the budget? who cares? I mean, who really cares about anything? the meaning of life? ten pin bowling scores? the father of koo stark’s baby? well, one man cares (not about ten pin bowling scores, but cricket is another matter) his name is geoff merrill…’ The release goes on to say that Mr Merrill wishes people to drink with their mouths and noses, that his labels ‘cock a snook’ at winespeak and then describes the aforementioned Merrill as ‘a moustached adonis in a magician’s hat’. And you thought we wine writers were full of it!
