In case you thought the oversupply in Australia was bad enough, consider the fate of the potential 75,000 tonnes of grapes that might have been left out on the vines after this Californian vintage. Some uncontracted fruit was being sold for as low as US$65 per tonne, less than it cost to harvest. Worth considering that 16% of California’s vineyards have yet to come into bear!
